Locals on a Quest for Manhood by John Edwards

Sorce: Niagara News

Local News - A group of Wellanders are on a Quest for Manhood.

Over the past several weeks, between 40 and 70 local men have been meeting every Wednesday at 6 a.m. at Wellspring Community Church in an effort to become better fathers, husbands and sons.

The program is called A Quest for Manhood and has been organized by a group of local churches.

The program has a video portion from a minister in the United States and then the participants break off into groups to discuss a variety of issues including their relationships with their fathers and what children want from them.

Ron Latulippe is one of the organizers of the sessions. He says in order to become better men today, they have to deal with some of the emotions they have inside. "We look at things from our past," he said. In a recent session, the groups were asked to describe their fathers and the relationship's they had with them.

Latulippe said the turnout has been strong and the response from the participants has been good.

Vince Resch was told about the program by a friend and decided to give it a shot.

During a discussion, he talked about his father and how hard working he was.

Resch says the sessions have helped him talk about some issues. He says it wasn't difficult for him to open up to other members of the group."It helped me get some insight into the past," he said.

Resch said he decided to take the course to help improve his relationship with his own family. "I wanted to learn to be a better father and husband," he said.

This was also the goal of Wellander Mark Carl. "I had heard about this through my church," he said in an interview with the Niagara News.

Carl has been pleased with the sessions. "I was surprised at how it looks into your past a lot," he said. "I thought it would be more lecturing."

Latulippe said the next sessions will discuss how to become better fathers and husbands. For more information visit www.questformanhood.com.
